Masterclass on “Story Telling 2.0”- a workshop for the employees of MOHAN Foundation, supported by SBI Foundation

  • MOHAN Foundation hosted a Masterclass on "Story Telling 2.0," a session for its employees, on April 28, 2022. Masterclass on Story Telling 1.0 was conducted on March 5, 2022 and the resource person for both the sessions was Ms. Lavanya Krishnakumar. The Masterclass was supported by SBI Foundation.

     

    The session was designed for employees who have trouble writing reports. The workshop's main purpose was to teach participants about various aspects of thinking as well as the numerous uses and functions of writing. The training was held via the Zoom App, and all participants were able to join from their laptops or desktops.

     

    In the beginning, Ms. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director, MOHAN Foundation welcomed all the participants and invited Ms. Krishnakumar to begin the session.

     

    Ms. Krishnakumar started the session with a power presentation in which she spoke about:

     

    • What’s your story: In which she showed 6 pictures and asked participants to come up with a story.
    • Press Release
    • Key components of a Press Release
    • Basic Format/ Grid
    • Body of the Press Release:
      • Write a compelling headline
      • Intro: Covey the news value to the press
      • The body of the press release (the ‘why’ & ‘how’)
      • Offer a tempting quote
      • Provide valuable background information on the subject
      • Summarize the ‘who’ and the ‘what’ in a boilerplate
      • Contact information
      • Structure of a Press Release
      • How to write a newspaper article
        • Elements of an article
          • Headline: Summarize the story
          • Byline: Writers name and specialty. Date.
          • Place line
          • Lead: The 5 Ws and an H
          • Body
          • Quotations
          • Organize your paragraph
            • Para 1: Report on the who/what/when/where
            • Para 2: Report on the why and how
            • Para 3: Provide a quote from an expert, witness, participant.
            • Para 4: Provide a quote from a 2nd witness in the same manner
            • Para 5: Final, concluding statement about the report

     

    For the participants, the training was a dynamic learning experience.

     

    By the end of the class, the participants had a good working understanding of writing from a notch. Ms. Lalitha Raghuram offered the vote of thanks at the end.
