MOHAN Foundation’s Ambassador Counsels for Eye Donation

Updated on Wednesday, November 3, 2021
  • Ms. Neha Sharma of the MOHAN Foundation Chandigarh office, received a call on 31st October 2021 from Organ Donation Ambassador Ms. Parveen Mahajan. Ms. Mahajan informed about the demise of the 72-year-old Mr. Narender Singh Chawla, from Chandigarh. She had advised the family about the option of donation and they were interested. Ms. Mahajan then reached out to Ms. Neha for help in coordinating the donation.

Ms Neha explained the process of eye donation and informed the family that it could be done either at PGIMER or Govt. Medical College & Hospital, in Chandigarh itself.  She contacted the eye bank of PGIMER but did not receive a response. The GMCH Sector 32 Chandigarh was contacted next, they promptly responded and initiated the process of eye donation.

The hospital, however insisted that the a rapid antigen test be performed to rule out COVID. It was already five hours since Mr. Chawla had expired and by the time the test would be completed, the corneas would become unsuitable for retrieval. Unfortunately the donation therefore, did not take place.

MOHAN Foundation appreciates the efforts of ambassador Ms. Parveen in her attempt to counsel the family for eye donation.
