MOHAN Foundation participates in the Observance of the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day Organized by SOTTO, Manipur

  • On August 3, 2025, MOHAN Foundation participated in the observance of the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day organized by the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Manipur, under the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), at Hotel Imolesh, Old Lambulane Road, Imphal. Representing MOHAN Foundation were Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator – Northeast and Project Lead – Manipur; Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive; and Ms. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive.

     

    The programme was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Chambo Gonmei, Director, DHS, Manipur; Dr. N. Bino, Additional Director-MD, Health Services, Government of Manipur; Dr. Meena Seram, Consultant (Vital Statistics, Maternal Health), DHS; Dr. Vikram Khoisnam, State Nodal Officer, National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment; and Dr. Kh. Lokeshwar, Medical Superintendent, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), who formed the presidium.

     

    The event saw the presence of donor families, doctors, and personnel from DHS. Transplant coordinators from hospitals including the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), SHIJA Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Pvt. Ltd., and JNIMS were also in attendance.

     

    In his address, Dr. Chambo Gonmei described organ donation as one of the noblest acts, capable of saving multiple lives. Quoting transplant pioneer Dr. Thomas Starzl, he emphasised that even accident victims can become life savers through donation. He also encouraged eye donation, highlighting its potential to restore sight and give individuals a second chance at life.

     

    Dr. N. Shugeta, Deputy Nodal Officer, SOTTO Manipur, spoke on the importance of observing National Organ Donation Day annually to spread awareness and dispel myths and superstitions surrounding organ donation. She urged voluntary participation, calling the saving of human lives the highest form of service.

     

    The programme also included a felicitation ceremony for donor families, who were honoured with tokens of appreciation and gifts.

     

    The event concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony and witnessed the participation of nearly 100 attendees, marking a meaningful step towards strengthening the organ donation movement in Manipur.
