MOHAN Foundation organized an Awareness Session on Organ Donation at the Vinayaka Mission Nursing College and Aaru Paadai Veedu Hospital, Puducherry

  • On 24th October, 2013 an awareness talk on organ donation and transplantation was held for the nursing staff and students at Vinayaka Mission Nursing College and Aaru Paadai Veedu Hospital, Puducherry. Since it was a large group 4 separate sessions were organized. The session was conducted by Mr. Ananth. R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation – deputed at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital, Puducherry. Mrs. Uma, Faculty and Mrs. Muthuselvi, Principal from Vinayaka Mission Nursing College, Puducherry took the initiative to organize the sessions. 

     

    In his sessions he covered the following topics: types of donations – live and deceased donation; difference between brain death, cardiac death and coma; organs that can be donated; the number of hours the various organs can be preserved before transplantation; importance of the donor card; the role of staff nurses and transplant coordinators; the legal formalities involved and about the activities of MOHAN Foundation to strengthen the deceased organ donation programme in the country. 

     

    There were totally 26 nurses and 345 nursing students who participated in the sessions. Totally 479 donor cards were picked up.
