MOHAN Foundation invited to State Level Conference TRANSPLANTEX 2020, A.J. Hospital, Mangalore

  • Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation and Mr. Sachin Sunny, Transplant Coordinator were invited as expert faculty at TRANSPLANTEX 2020, State Level Conference, the first ever conference on brain death and organ donation organised by A J Hospital, Mangalore on February 25th, 2020.

    The State level conference was organised by the Dr. Lakshmi Memorial College of Nursing, Mangalore. There were 100 participants for the conference, consisting of nursing students and working professionals. Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, started the session with topic of basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation. She shared her experience in this field. She spoke about the qualities of a transplant coordinator, and it inspired the participants and they got enthusiastic to promote organ donation in their career. Moreover, she narrated her own experiences.

    Afternoon session began with a role play on grief counseling. Mrs. Raghuram described how to counsel the brain dead patient’s family, different counseling approaches along with real life case scenarios.  Participants had many doubts and misconceptions regarding organ donation and counseling. All the doubts that the participants had were clarified by Mrs. Raghuram during question and answer hour.  

    Mr. Sachin Sunny started his session with an icebreaker. It was an energizer for the participants. He spoke about team work and explained how a transplant coordinator works with all other health care professionals.

    Finally, Mrs. Raghuram conducted a session on communication and covered how to improve communication skills in different situations. All participants gave extremely good feedback about the entire program and mentioned that they learnt new things and that they look forward to such programs in the future.
