MOHAN Foundation invited for a talk on organ donation at the Goonj annual meeting in their office in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi

  • On April 16, 2015 MOHAN Foundation was invited to an awareness session on organ donation by Ms. Anamika at the community hall, Sarita Vihar, J block, New Delhi.

     

    The session was attended by 300 Goonj employees who had travelled from various part of the country for their annual meeting.

     

    Founded in 1999 by Mr. Anshu Gupta, Goonj is a non-governmental organization based in Delhi, which works in 21 states across India in disaster relief, humanitarian aid and community development. Till date, it has converted 1,000 tonnes of used clothes, household goods and other urban discards into usable resources for the poor. It collects and delivers 1,000 tons of material every year through a network of 500 volunteers and 250 partners. Additionally, it runs infrastructure and local development projects in villages and slum areas.

     

    Ms. Pallavi started off by asking how many of those present had heard of organ donation and then went on to explain why organ donation was the need of the hour especially with so many people suffering from end stage organ failure in India. She also spoke about brain death and in simple and clear terms explained what is brain death, difference between brain death and cardiac death and myths related to organ donation. Ms. Pallavi also explained in brief about eye donation and encouraged all the participants to  think about eye donation and promote it within their families.

     

    It was a very interactive session wherein the participants shared their experience and cited queries pertaining to organ donation. One participant also narrated an incident where one of her friends family had donated the organs of their son.

     

    130 people pledged their organs by picking the donor cards.
