MOHAN Foundation, in association with SHIJA Hospital & Research Private Ltd., organizes awareness program on organ donation at SHIJA Academy, Sangakpham

  • On June 30, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness program at SHIJA Academy, Sangakpham, Imphal West, Manipur, in association with SHIJA Hospital & Research Private Ltd. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The program, organized for paramedical students at SHIJA Academy, was coordinated by Mr. Haobam Gunaremaba Singh, Transplant Coordinator, and Ms. Sweety Moirangthem, Assistant Transplant Coordinator, SHIJA Hospital & Research Pvt. Ltd., Imphal. Ms. Athokpam Nidhibala, Clinical Psychologist at SHIJA Hospital, was also present.

     

    Mr. Bidyananda Laishram opened the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and outlining the program, after which Ms. Monica Devi took over the session.

     

    Ms. Monica provided insightful information on organ donation and related terminology, using a PowerPoint presentation to facilitate understanding. Key points discussed included:

     

    • Types of organ donation and eligibility criteria for donors

    • Current status of organ donation in India and Manipur

    • Present scenario of corneal donation in the region

    • Facts and myths surrounding organ donation

    • Differences between circulatory death, brain death, and coma

    • Importance of the donor card

    • Process of pledging for organ donation

    • Advancements in hand and other organ transplants

    • Interactive Q&A session

     

    The MOHAN Foundation team expressed gratitude to the participants, faculty of SHIJA Academy, and the coordination team for their support. The session concluded with a strong call to action, encouraging continued collaboration and the promotion of similar awareness activities in the future. Information leaflets on organ donation were distributed to participants, including faculty members.

     

    Approximately 120 participants attended the session, significantly contributing to raising awareness and promoting the importance of organ donation
