MOHAN Foundation conducts a session on Role of Police in Deceased Organ Donation in TNPA – 4th batch

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Oonamancherry, Chennai to speak on Organ Donation to the Inspectors and Sub Inspectors during their refresher training program. Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar, Helpline Executive and Ms. Sunitha Velankanni, Transplant Coordinator deputed by MOHAN Foundation in TRANSTAN were the resource persons. The training was conducted in their training hall on 09th August 2018 at 3 PM. 15 Inspectors attended the session.

    The session started by issuing the green ribbons and pre awareness survey forms for the participants. Mr. Siva Shankar started the session with the Concepts of Organ Donation explaining the origin of death from years till now. He explained why it’s important to donate organs and the need for speaking about organ donation to the police.  He explained which organs that can be donated at stages such as while living, after Cardiac Death and after Brain Death. He explained the myths on Organ Donation.

    The session continued Ms. Sunitha Velankanni speaking about the role of police in organ donation. She explained in detail on - when the police will arrive in the hospital, when there is an organ donation case in the ICU. She explained the need for police to understand their role, so that every work will be done smoothly. She explained the green corridor which the police create when there is urgent transportation of organs from one hospital to other. 

    She ended the session with a donation story praising the work of police officials during the case. The session ended with distribution of special posters that can be pasted in their own stations.
