MOHAN Foundation conducts a session on Organ Donation at SFS College

  • Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director, Nagpur centre of  MOHAN Foundation was invited by SFs College. Dr. Roy, NSS unit-in-charge of SFS college  asked that the students  be sensitized about the “Gift Of Life”. The session took place on 10th December 2013.

     

    Dr. Wankhede gave a presentation on what is organ donation and how organs can be donated.

     

    He explained Brain death in detail.  He touched upon the  religious beliefs of people and the myths related to organ donation, the organ that can be donated  while living, after  cardiac death and brain death. He mentioned that the consent of family  of a brain dead person is mandatory before organ donation can take place.

     

    Questions raised by the participants:

    1. Any financial help to the poor person who wants to do kidney transplant?
    2. What is Govt. Act for kidney transplant?
    3. After donation of  organs is there any govt. benefit to donor family?
    4. Dr. Roy was interested to do transplant coordinator training after retirement.

     

    At the end of the program Mrs. Sujata of SFS College gave a vote of thanks to Dr. Wankhede.         

     

    More than 40 students attended the session, 5 students picked up donor cards. Many took the pledge form home to discuss with their family.
