

On the request of KLE University, Belgaum, MOHAN Foundation organized a one day workshop on 28th October 2017. This university is performing kidney transplants and has plans to initiate liver and heart transplant programs soon.
Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation spoke about the current situation of deceased organ donation in India. Dr. Sonal Asthana spoke about the situation of deceased organ donation program in Karnataka. Dr. Deiveegan, Professor of Neurosurgery at SRM Medical College, spoke about brain death identification and also shared his experiences in declaring brain death in government hospital. Dr. Arun Kumar, Professor at Saveeta Medical college hospital presented on brain death maintenance and challenges in optimizing a potential donor. Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram, Country Director of MOHAN Foundation showed the NHSBT film on grief counseling – right and wrong approach, and spoke about stages of grief and counseling the families of brain dead victims.
About 75 ICU professionals attended the workshop.
The management of KLE University had several questions about starting the deceased organ donation program, and enthusiastically appreciated the guidance provided by the expert team.
