




On 8th January 2018, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs. Madhuri Shirsat, Angel of Change Volunteer of MOHAN Foundation Mumbai to conduct an organ donation awareness talk for 160 students belonging to Classes 6th to 8th of KMS English Medium School (CBSE), Parel, Mumbai.
The event started by screening of a movie trailer, “Dr. Tatya Lahane…Angaar.....Power is within”, a biopic on the life of Dr. Tatya Lahane in Marathi depicting the commendable work with his medical practice reaching to poorest of poor and how he underwent a kidney transplant using his mother’s donated kidney.
Mrs.Jaya Jairam introduced the topic of organ donation by talking about how wonderful we all feel while giving or receiving gifts and how some of our loved ones could be in need of the most valuable gift of all – a life-saving organ. She went on to explain about different types of donors, brain death and natural death, difference between coma and brain death, which organs and tissues could be donated and when. She also discussed the various myths and barriers prevailing in the society with respect to organ donation.
The students were told to discuss the topic of organ donation and taking the Pledge, with their parents. The students raised a lot of questions and all of them were clarified. Many of them decided to take the Pledge when they became adults.
