On April 3, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at New Out Patient Department (OPD) Block, RIMS. Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, and Mr Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Programme Executives represented the foundation.
The session commenced with Ms. Priya introducing the topic of organ donation and assessing the participants’ existing knowledge and level of awareness on the subject. She provided a comprehensive explanation of organ donation, describing the various organs and tissues that can be donated. She also clearly distinguished between living and deceased organ donation.
In addition, she briefly outlined the development of organ donation in Manipur and informed the participants about the hospitals and centres where transplantation procedures are carried out. During the session, she also highlighted the legal aspects related to organ donation, emphasizing that the commercial trade of human organs, including their purchase and sale, is strictly prohibited and considered a punishable offence under the law.
In the end, participants were guided through the process of taking the organ donation pledge and were encouraged to register as donor. Informational pamphlets on organ donation containing toll-free helpline details were distributed.
Around 20 participants attended the session and participated actively, indicating a positive response and improved understanding of organ donation.
