MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk at Eye OPD of New OPD Block, RIMS

  • On March 26, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at Eye OPD (Out Patient Department) of New OPD Block, RIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was led by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, along with Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The session commenced with Mr. Paringanba introducing the team to the participants. He then delivered a comprehensive overview of organ donation and transplantation, outlining the various organs and tissues that can be donated. He also clearly distinguished between living and deceased donation. Furthermore, he highlighted the current status of organ donation in Manipur, noting that kidney transplantation services are available within the government sector at RIMS and the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

     

    Additionally, Mr. Paringanba provided a detailed explanation of the legal framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), stressing that the buying and selling of human organs are unlawful and punishable by law. He further briefed the participants on the process of pledging organ donation, clarified the functioning of the pledge system, and highlighted the essential role of family consent.

    The session concluded with an expression of appreciation to the participants for their active engagement. Informational pamphlets were distributed to further strengthen understanding and address any remaining queries. Approximately 25 participants attended the session and acquired valuable knowledge on organ and tissue donation.
