MOHAN Foundation conducted awareness session on organ donation at Health and Wellness Centre, Yumnam Huidrom, Manipur

  • On September 29, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Health & Wellness Centre (HWC), Yumnam Huidrom, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation attended the session as the key speakers.

     

    The programme was conducted as a part of the Weekly Health Mela. Staff of the Health Centre, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) of the area and the patients attending the health mela attended the session.

     

    Ms. Monica began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its objectives and visions. She informed about the various activities and projects taken up by the team in the field of organ donation. She then explained the following points in detail:

     

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor.

    • The status of organ donation in India and in Manipur.

    • The first deceased organ donation in Manipur.

    • The facts and myths on organ donation.

    • Difference between circulatory death, brain death and coma.

    • Importance of family member’s consent in organ donation.

     

    Ms. Udayini explained the process of pledging for organ donation in National Organs and Tissues Transplant Organisation’s (NOTTO) website. Frequently Asked Questions about organ donation flyers were distributed to all the participants for better understanding of the topic.

     

    The ASHA workers said that that they would help in educating the community with the help of the FAQs. They will call the MF team if an awareness session was required. The participants expressed gratitude to the MF team for the excellent session.

     

    Close to 25 participants attended the session.
