On September 29, 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted a short awareness session on organ donation at Primary Health Center, Phayeng, Manipur. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation attended the session as the key speakers.
Dr. Kimthang, District Nodal Officer, Ayushman Bhava Campaign, CMO Imphal-West Pool contacted MOHAN Foundation and coordinated for the same. Medical officers & staffs of the centre & Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) of the area attended the session.
Ms. Monica began the session by speaking about the significance of organ donation and community understanding. She explained the organs and tissues that can be donated in cases of circulatory death and brain death. She highlighted the need for passion in this area by discussing the difficulties faced by patients waiting for deceased donors as well as the protocols for keeping the organ transplant waiting list up to date. Myths and facts of organ donation and significance of the family’s consent in the process of organ donation were also discussed.
Ms. Udayini explained the process of pledging for organ donation in National Organs and Tissues Transplant Organisation’s (NOTTO) website. Frequently Asked Questions about organ donation flyers were distributed to all the participants for better understanding of the topic.
The participants expressed their gratitude to MOHAN Foundation for reaching out to them.
