On July 17, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness session at the Kshetrigao Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Imphal East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive at MOHAN Foundation.
The event was organized as part of the observance of Organ Donation Month, in collaboration with the staff of Kshetrigao UPHC. Postgraduate students from the Department of Community Medicine, JNIMS, also participated by delivering informative talks on maternal health and family planning. Mr. Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator at JNIMS, was also present for the session.
Ms. Monica introduced the topic of organ donation, providing detailed information on types of donors, organs and tissues that can be donated, and the importance of this life-saving act. She highlighted the current status of organ donation in Manipur, pointing out that the state is lagging behind compared to other regions. She also addressed several common myths and misconceptions with clear, fact-based explanations.
The session concluded with the distribution of FAQs on organ donation. Close to 30 participants attended the session and gained valuable insights, leaving with a strong call to action to support the cause of organ donation.
