On March 12, 2026, MOHAN Foundation participated in a free health camp at Wainem Rongmei Naga Village, Kangpokpi District, Manipur, on the observance of World Kidney Day organised by Department of Nephrology, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on the theme “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet”. The foundation was represented by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead (Manipur).
During the health camp, specialist doctors from various departments including Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, and ENT provided free OPD consultations and medical check-ups to the public. Diagnostic services were also provided and essential medicines were distributed free of cost to the beneficiaries.
As part of the event, a formal programme was also organized during which several distinguished dignitaries were felicitated in recognition of their presence and support. The dignitaries honoured included Golmei Gongapou (Khunbu), Khulakpa Benjamin Golmei, Prof. L. K. Saratchandra Singh Senior Nephrology, Department of Nephrology, RIMS, Prof. Takhellambam Brojen Singh, Head of the Department of Nephrology, RIMS and Dr. Jimmy Hulang from the Department of Nephrology, RIMS.
During the health talk, Ms. Monica delivered an informative session focusing on kidney health and the importance of organ donation. She explained the concept and types of organ donation and highlighting its vital role in saving lives. Particular emphasis was placed on kidney donation, noting that transplant procedures are successfully conducted in Manipur and offer life-saving treatment for patients suffering with kidney failure. She also explained the concept of brain death, emphasizing that organs from a brain-dead individual can save up to 8 to 9 lives, including those in need of kidney transplants. She drew the attentions of participants to the significance of deceased organ donation, stating that instead of the body being cremated or buried after death, donating organs can give several patients a second chance at life. Lastly, she spoke about the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, highlighting that the buying or selling of human organs is strictly prohibited and punishable by law, and that organ donation must always be carried out ethically and voluntarily.
Participants were encouraged to take the organ donation pledge through the NOTTO website, and they were guided on the procedure for registering as organ donors. Nearly 150 people participated in the program and gained valuable insights about the importance of organ donation.
