On March 11, 2026, the MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at Eye OPD. The session was conducted by Ms Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive along with Mr Elangbam Paringnaba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.
The session began with Ms. Priya introducing the team, followed by an informative presentation on organ donation. She explained the two forms of organ donation—living donation and deceased donation—and clarified the differences between them. Highlighting the local context, she stressed the importance and growing need for deceased organ donation in Manipur to help meet the demand for organ transplants. The session also focused on addressing common myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She emphasized that organ donation is supported by all religions and encouraged participants to consider it as a noble act that can save lives. She further explained that rather than the human body being simply cremated or buried after death, it has the potential to give life to others through organ donation. Furthermore, she provided information about the transplant services currently available in Manipur, including the facilities offered by both government and private hospitals.
In the end, participants were guided through the process of taking the organ donation pledge and were encouraged to register as donors. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on organ donation containing toll-free helpline details were distributed.
Around 20 participants attended the session and participated actively, indicating a positive response and improved understanding of organ donation.
