MOHAN Foundation Conducts Organ Donation Awareness Session with JNIMS

  • On October 29, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), conducted an organ donation awareness session for the residents of Kshetri Awang Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was led by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mr. Victor Rajkumar, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The event was organized as part of the Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (UHSND) under the National Health Mission (NHM), in collaboration with Mr. Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator, JNIMS. Postgraduate medical students from JNIMS also contributed by delivering informative talks on nutrition and rabies awareness.

     

    Mr. Bidyananda introduced MOHAN Foundation and its mission to promote organ donation across India. He explained the concept of deceased organ donation, highlighting that organs from brain-dead individuals can save up to eight lives and significantly improve the quality of life for several others. He also spoke about the renal transplant program at JNIMS and the current status of living kidney transplantation in Manipur.

     

    Addressing the issue of illegal organ trade in India, Mr. Bidyananda outlined preventive strategies and debunked common myths associated with organ donation. He urged participants to spread awareness and encourage others in their communities to come forward and pledge as organ donors.

     

    Information pamphlets on organ donation were distributed among the attendees. Around 25 participants took part in the session and gained valuable insights into the life-saving impact of organ donation.
