MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh Session - 270

  • On 19th January 2022, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Secretary, Red Cross - Punjab, Chandigarh to conduct an awareness talk on organ donation for their First Aid Students at Vivekanand Bhawan, Chandigarh. Around 20 participants from various parts of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh attended the program. The participants included college students, patient care attendants, home nursing, nannies and bus conductors.

     

    Dr. Santosh Kumar, State Training Supervisor addressed the gathering and gave a brief introduction on organ donation to the participants.

     

    Participants were given an introduction and presentation on organ donation and brain death by Ms. Neha Sharma Katoch.

     

    In this talk, she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • She explained 5 myths on organ donation with their corresponding reality check
    • Difference between circulatory death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Real life story of an organ transplant patient was shared with the participants
    • Importance of the donor card
    • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website
    • MOHAN Foundation’s mission & vision

     

    The entire group got motivated and convinced to support organ donation. Around 10 people expressed their willingness to sign up as organ donor. They would love to share their wish with their families and also respect for the body after death.
