On September 24, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for nursing students at Jubilee Hall, RIMS, under the ongoing program “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan.”
Representing the Foundation, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Program Coordinator (Northeast) & Project Lead (Manipur), introduced MOHAN Foundation’s mission to promote organ donation and build a sustainable framework in the state.
The event also featured sessions by RIMS faculty on nutrition and mental hygiene, highlighting the importance of holistic well-being. In addition, Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Medical Social Worker and Transplant Coordinator at RIMS, delivered a talk on eye donation, underscoring its impact on restoring sight and giving the gift of vision.
In her address, Ms. Monica emphasized the life-saving potential of organ donation and its ability to transform lives. She explained the different types of donation—living and deceased—while clarifying key concepts such as brain death and coma. She also addressed the demand-supply gap in organ transplantation, outlined who can become a donor, and guided students on how to pledge their organs. By countering myths with evidence-based information, she urged students not only to consider pledging themselves but also to serve as advocates for organ donation within their communities.
The session was attended by nearly 100 nursing students, who left with a deeper understanding of organ donation and its far-reaching impact
