MOHAN Foundation conducts training for Organ Donation Ambassadors

  • On September 27, 2025, the 37th class of Organ Donation Ambassadors was trained. Seven ambassador trainees participated in the online course. After providing an overview of the session, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde asked the learners to introduce themselves. 

     

    The training  consisted of three main sessions.

     

    1.  Interactions with experts - 

    The experts  for this session were 

    Dr Saranya R- JIPMER, Karaikal

    Dr Anupma Kaul- SGPGI, Lucknow

    Mrs Jaya Jairam, MOHAN Foundation, Mumbai

    Mrs Kavitha Aeesh, MOHAN Foundation Kerela

     

    The trainees discussed many of their doubts like 

    • How to improve the awareness of body donation in the community? 
    • What is the process of pledging and time of actual donation? 
    • Why is there so much increase in kidney failure
    • What is the reason for children suffering from kidney disease. 
    • What can the Government do to reduce the cost of transplants
    • What should we tell the audience about kidney disease and prevention. 
    • What are the functions of NOTTO?

     

    Mrs. Jaya talked about her experience as a recipient and the initial months of care she required. She emphasized how her doctor's advice motivated her to strive for life normalcy. 

     

    Mrs. Kavitha described a case study in which organ donation depended on how brain death was interpreted. She mentioned the necessity of elucidating the patient's position with the family. Whether they have come to terms with the fact that brain death is inevitable. Additionally, she clarified the need of comprehending family dynamic  prior to counseling. 

     

    2. Gratitude session: To instill empathy in the trainees, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, project officer for the MOHAN Foundation Delhi NCR, led a workshop. Following their reading of a few case studies, all trainees were asked to compose a letter of appreciation to a donor family.  After a brief break, the trainees read their letters, and Dr. Muneet offered commentary. 

     

    3. Communication about organ donation to the public.  Dr Hemal Kanvinde, of the Chennai office of MOHAN Foundation spoke of the various types of audience, types of  awareness. She presented many examples of modes of awareness from talks, to information desks, to rallies and art works. 

     

    The training ended with a few feedbacks from the trainees.
