On July 8, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Mantripukhri Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.
The session was organised as part of the UPHC’s yoga program, coordinated with the support of Dr. Suranjoy, Medical Officer, UPHC, and Mr. Kiran, Program Head, Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH).
Mr. Bidyananda Laishram opened the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and its mission to promote organ donation and transplantation in India. Key topics covered included the difference between living and deceased donors, the concept of brain death, and its medical and legal declaration. The session also addressed cornea and kidney donation and provided an overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, which governs organ donation in India. The importance and eligibility criteria for becoming an organ donor were also explained.
Informational pamphlets on organ donation were distributed to all participants to reinforce learning and encourage discussion.
Nearly 25 participants attended the session, representing diverse communities including the Meitei, Kabui, and other non-local groups. This inclusive participation reflected a collective interest in and commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of organ donation across different sections of society.
