On July 4, 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Mantripukhri Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) cum Project Lead (Manipur), along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mrs. Thaudem Mayarani Devi, Program Executive.
The programme was organised in coordination with Dr. Suranjoy, Medical Officer, and the UPHC staff. Prior to the session, a meeting was held to discuss future collaboration, during which Dr. Suranjoy expressed interest in continuing such sessions and offered support in organising programmes at local clubs.
Ms. Monica introduced MOHAN Foundation, its objectives, and vision, and provided updates on the ongoing cornea and kidney transplantation programmes in Manipur. She explained the concept and significance of organ donation, the challenges faced by patients waiting for transplants, and the crucial role of family consent in the donation process. To provide real-life context, she shared the story of Manipur’s first deceased organ donation.
She also spoke about the Green Corridor used for organ transportation and guided participants on how to pledge for organ donation on the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) website.
Participants raised queries regarding the eligibility criteria for organ donation, which Ms. Monica addressed in detail, explaining the time frame for organ retrieval and medical suitability.
The session concluded with the distribution of FAQs translated into the local language to enhance understanding of the topic. Nearly 15 participants attended the session, gaining valuable insights into organ donation and its life-saving potential.
