  • On Sunday Nov 26, 2023 a Seminar “Kidney Health for All” was organised at Hotel Westin Chennai. This seminar was organised jointly by Kidney Warrior Foundation, Nephroplus, TANKER Foundation and MOHAN Foundation with the support of Boehringer Ingelheim.

The Inauguration Ceremony was graced by Tamil Nadu Govt Health Secretary,  Shri Gagandeep Singh Bedi; Director of Public Health, Dr T S Selvavinayagam; Founder of Tanker Foundation,  Dr Georgi Abraham; Chairman of CURI Hospital, Dr P B Sivaraman; HoD Nephrology Dept Madras Medical College, Dr N Gopalakrishnan and Senior Nephrologist Stanley Medical College and Hospital:  Dr Edwin Fernanda.  Actor Mr Vasanth Ravi also joined the inaugural function and supported the seminar. More than 150 doctors, patients, caregivers, students and social workers attended the seminar.

There were 4 panel discussions moderated by eminent nephrologists. Topics for the panel discussion were:

    1. Exploring the growth of hypertension and diabetes and its impact on chronic kidney disease

    2. Early detection and prevention practices in kidney health by diabetologists and ophthalmologists

    3. Pregnancy and kidney health and challenges impacting mother and babies

    4. General Practitioners and Family Physicians in the frontline in navigating kidney failure

It was a lively discussion with the main points being that apart from diabetes and hypertension, there are some environmental factors that cause kidney failure.  Healthy diet, enough exercise, coping with stress and early detection can stop the progress of kidney failure.  There is a need for creating awareness among the public as well as doctors about kidney diseases.

6 staff of MOHAN Foundation attended the sessions.  They also set up the Life before Ashes exhibit and distributed green ribbons.

MOHAN Foundation thanks the Kidney Warrior Foundation for planning the scientific sessions in the seminar and Ms Maryann Mannaseh for her tremendous efforts in organising the seminar.
