Jaipur Citizen Forum Invites MOHAN Foundation to Jaipur

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Jaipur Citizen Forum (JCF) on 19th October, 2013 to participate and raise awareness on the subject of Deceased Organ Donation and set up a functional base in Jaipur.

     

    The meeting organized, was the preliminary steps to introduce MOHAN Foundation and assist the foundation to carry forward its mission in the pink city.

     

    Mr. J. K Jajoo (Jagriti Foundation) and Ms. Jagnani (Eye Bank Society of Jaipur) had proactively worked to spread the word around and to garner an audience for the seminar.

     

    Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation was  invited to share the plans for a collaboration and meet various officials at a seminar at Indralok Auditorium, Jaipur.

     

    More than 100 members of the Jaipur Citizen Forum attended the seminar where Dr. Shroff explained the concept of Brain death and the importance of cadaver organ donation in the state of Rajasthan.

     

    Principal Health Secretary Mr. Deepak Upreti was the Guest of Honor and Mr. Rajiv Arora the Chairman of JCF was the host for the meeting.

     

    A film on brain death was screened and a detailed presentation was made to the audience to understand the much neglected issue. Amit Kumar and Sourabh Sharma from MOHAN Foundation (Delhi-NCR) manned the registration desk and clarified the doubts of the participants who visited the desk and also guided those who were interested in pledging their organs through the sign up drive.

     

    A large 'Donor Card' was on display and on the spot sign up drive was initiated which saw many members come forward and sign on the Donor card.

     

    Mr. Premshankar Suman from the Pension Association took 150 donor cards and fliers with FAQs about organ donation to distribute at a State level meeting which was to be held the next day.

     

    Mr. Rajiv Arora (Chairman & Minister of State) addressed the audience and passionately supported the cause. Further; he also spoke to the media and complimented the work being done by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Dr. Shroff along with Mrs. Bhavana Jagwani and Mr. Jajoo visited  Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Hospital (MGMCH), Jaipur.

     

    The medical college is being managed by the India Education Trust, established in early 2000, it is now associated with the 800 bed Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Here, Dr. Shroff was introduced to all the Heads of the various Departments by their Managing Trustee Dr. M. L. Swarnkar, VC - Mr. Sachdev and Dr. Sadasukhi.

     

    Dr. Swarnkar had already initiated the talks of an active partnership with MOHAN Foundation as the knowledge partner and confessed that the presentation given by Dr. Shroff earlier that day came as a big eye opener to all the members who were present at the session. The Foundation has been recognized as one of the major protagonists when it comes to Cadaver Organ donation in the counrty. He also said that MGMCH has been working to initiate the whole process for a while.

     

    The Head of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Anesthetists, Medical superintendents, Medical Director and the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery were part of the detailed discussion which was followed by screening of films on Brain death and on Liver and kidney retrieval done by Dr. Shroff himself.

     

    Eye bank Society of Rajasthan, Jaipur had also invited Dr. Shroff to come and address the panel of doctors and surgeons.

     

    Eye Bank Society of Rajasthan is actively promoting the eye donation programme in the State. It is headed by Mr. Mehta who has been strongly advocating eye donations.

     

    Dr. Shroff discussed the technical aspects of eye donation with many eye surgeons and reputed medical representatives of the city and also presented the agenda of MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Dr. Manish Sharma (Consultant Pediatric Intensivist, J. K Lon Hospital and SMS Hospital, Jaipur) also expressed his interest in the programme and said he would be helping MOHAN Foundation circulate the extensive ICU flowcharts across the hospitals in Jaipur and would help in linking up with Critical Care Society to hold CMEs on brain death for ICU consultants in Rajasthan.
