Chennai, September 19, 2025 – To promote awareness on organ donation, an information desk was set up at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, Chetpet. The initiative also highlighted corneal donation and precautions to prevent lung diseases caused by pigeons.
The desk was jointly organized by Mr. Ganesh C, Senior Project Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation; Mr. Ian Lloyd, Transplant Coordinator, Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals; and Mr. Kabilarasu, Medical Social Worker. It was placed at the entrance of the OPD block, where the team interacted with the public and hospital staff.
They explained the concepts of organ donation, brain death, tissue donation, government schemes, registration procedures for recipients, and the use of the toll-free organ donation helpline 1800 103 7100. They also created awareness on precautions against lung disease caused by pigeon droppings.
The desk drew an encouraging response with over 80 visitors who received brochures, and 14 individuals collected donor cards.
Following the information desk activity, the team visited the dialysis unit of the hospital, where they distributed pre- and post-kidney care manuals to patients. A total of eight books were handed over.
