Indian Organ Donation Day Celebrations at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai

  • MOHAN Foundation Chennai,  joined hands with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu)(TRANSTAN) to organize a Mass Awareness event at  Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) on 27th November 2015 for Indian Organ Donation Day. The aim of the programme was to sensitize the stake holders on the importance of organ donation.

    A beautiful rangoli designed and executed by the nursing students greeted the doctors, nurses, patients and their relatives on the Indian Organ Donation Day. Near the rangoli, the transplant coordinators established an information stall on organ donation.

    The Signature Campaign was started by Dr. Vimala, Dean RGGGH, followed by RMO and ARMOs who signed on a banner specially designed for the occasion. The Banner was displayed at various departments in RGGGH. The general public, medical and non medical staff participated in the signature campaign after understanding the concept and the importance of organ donation.  An information sticker on organ donation was unveiled by the dean on this occasion.

    An interaction with the staff nurses was organised to overview on the deceased organ donation programme. The nurses were welcomed by Mr. Sree Kumar Programme Officer, National Network for Organ Sharing and he explained the role of by TRANSTAN for deceased organ donation programme.

    A Documentary Film was played on Tamil Nadu Leads The Way, after the film Ms.Sujatha MIS Officer, MOHAN Foundation clarified theirs doubts.

    Mr. Prakash Transplant Coordinator explained on how to promote the deceased organ donation programme in our hospital. He mainly focused on the cornea donation. His talk generated a lot of discussion among the nurses. The staff nurses recommended that phone number of the transplant coordinators should be displayed in all the wards and departments. In this manner organ donation will become a routine matter in the hospital because the patient’s relatives will see the sticker everywhere.

    The information sticker was displayed in all the departments in RGGGH.

    The campaign was very useful to build rapport with the Doctors, Staff Nurses, Technicians, and workers in the hospital.
