ICF Technical Training Centre conducts Awareness on Organ Donation on “World No Tobacco Day”

  • May 31 is dedicated to create awareness on the ill effects of tobacco usage. The Technical Training Centre of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Perambur, Chennai and the ICF Hospital invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about Organ Donation to their apprentices on 31st May 2014. This was a result of the effort of Ms Saranya a trainees of the one month Transplant Coordination Training Programme.  

     

    Ms. Saranya, Trainee and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of MOHAN Foundation and were deputed to conduct the session. Two short clips were shown to the students, one about the different organs of the body and other was a motivational video.  Dr. Hemal spoke about the need for organ donation, concept of brain death, which organs can be donated and the importance of family consent for organ donation.

     

    After the talk the discussion was - how the doctor knows which organs can be donated; whom to contact to do donation; if my family member does not have a donor card can I still do the donation; what is the use of donor card. These queries were answered.

     

    The Principal of the Centre, Shri. K. S. Sreedharan thanked Dr.  K. Chellamani of the Department of Family Welfare - ICF Hospital and MOHAN Foundation for their inputs on this very important day.

     

    There were 150 students and 10 staff present at the session and 50 picked donor cards.
