The 1st Year students of Masters of Social Work, DG Vaishnav College, Chennai were exposed to the Concepts of Tissue and Organ Donation by MOHAN Foundation under the topic of “Giving Life Beyond Life : The Gift of Organ Donation”. The 1.5 hour session was conducted for about 40 students in their class room on Dec 1, 2025 by Dr Hemal Kanvinde and Mr Ganesh C of MOHAN Foundation.
The first session was an awareness on eye donation. With a short film and a presentation, Dr Hemal explained the Concept of Eye Donation. During the interactions there were about 10 students who were blood donors and two students had a family member who had donated corneas. All students were very proud of their peers.
Mr Ganesh then continued with a Concept of Organ Donation. He spoke of the need for organs, when and what can be donated and what is the process of pledging. He also gave an indication on how to get an organ and Government schemes to support the transplant costs. He warned the students not to fall for online scams on organ donation. He ended with a small quiz on organ donation and its depiction in Tamil Movies.
Around 8 students took a pledge for cornea donation and one student pledged for organ donation. MOHAN Foundation thanks Ms. K. Saradha Devi for her initiative and Dr. B. Sulu Priya, Head of Department of Social work for the invitation and hospitality.
