  • SHARE (Self-Help Association for Rural Education and Employment) vellore invited MOHAN Foundation on 21/5/2012 to deliver a talk on Organ Donation for their Self- Help Group (SHG) members in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Nearly 85 women comprising different groups participated in this programme.

A short film promoting the concept of organ donation was screened. This was followed by a presentation on the concepts of organ donation, brain death, eye donation, whole body donation and organ transplantation by Mr. Vijay, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation.

Mr. Selvan, Project Coordinator, M.V. Hospital for Diabetes, Royapuram, conducted a pre-talk awareness survey with the SHG members testing their knowledge on organ donation. The talk by Mr. Vijay then commenced with the session being very interactive. There were a lot of queries pertaining to brain death, which were clarified by Mr. Vijay. After the session, a post-talk awareness survey was conducted with the same group.

All the SHG members pledged for a Donor Card and expressed their support. Mrs. Siva Sankari, wife of the project director of SHARE, said that she was pleased to have been a part of the programme and was grateful to MOHAN Foundation for rendering this serviceto society.

“One should not only be at the receiving end, but also on the giving side,” said Mrs.Krishnaveni, another SHG member.
