Dr. Harun Ur Rashid, President, Kidney Foundation Bangladesh visited MOHAN Foundation, Chennai on 1st October 2011. Dr. Rashid has been spearheading a dramatic change in the lives of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease in Bangladesh. He was in Chennai to attend a conference and made time to visit the Foundation.
Dr. Rashid expressed great interest in the deceased organ donation programme in Tamil Nadu. The modalities involved in starting such a programme in Bangladesh were explained to him. It was emphasized that the legal framework needed to be strong. In addition, education of medical and paramedical professionals as well as the involvement of religious leaders was needed. Dr. Rashid also felt that a trained transplant coordinator (as required in India) would be necessary to streamline procedures in the hospital. In this context, he hoped that either a senior nurse from Bangladesh could be sent to MOHAN Foundation for training or a one week Transplant Coordinators’ training programme could be held in Dhaka with our help.
