Deceased Organ donation awareness session at Ambedkar Institute of Social Work College, Nagpur

  • On 19th February 2023 Dr. Vinod Gajhate National Service Scheme (NSS) in charge at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Social Work College, Kailas Nagar, Nagpur invited MOHAN Foundation transplant coordinator Mr. Bulu Behera to take a session on organ donation for NSS students at Champa, Nagpur at their NSS camp.

    Mr. Behera gave following information regarding organ donation.

    • Types of death and in case natural death which tissues can be donated?
    • In case of brain death which organs and tissues can be donated?
    • What are the causes of brain death?
    • Difference between coma and brain death.
    • Time factors of organ retrieval as well as transplant.
    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • Age limit for organ donation?
    • Role of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, ZTCC for organ donation.
    • Information about Organ transplant Act 1994.
    • Information about hand and leg transplant.
    • Information about organ transplant priority list.
    • Information about MLC case and Non MLC about organ donation.
    • Myths and facts related organ donation.
    • Historical prospective related organ donation.
    • Importance of donor card.

    • What is the time duration for liver transplant?
    • How much is the cost for Eye transplant?

    Approximately 55 students were present, 10 amongst them signed consent form for organ donation rest of them mentioned to sing the consent after discussion with family.
