Awareness Session on Organ Donation conducted at Sri Sai Vignan High School, Seethammapeta – Visakhapatnam

  • On 25th February 2023, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session for the students at Vignan High School – Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Two sessions were taken for the 9 and 10th grade students of the school . Dr.Sadika Safeena,Transplant Coordinator - Visakhapatnam was the key resource. She was welcomed and introduced by Mrs.Mangamani,Coordinator of the school.

     Dr. Sadika started the session by asking the students about their understanding of organ donation and then introduced MOHAN Foundation to the participants and kept the audience engaged throughout the session. She then explained the concept of organ donation with the help of a power point presentation.

    The following were discussed in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need
    • Brain death
    • Causes of brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Difference between brain death and cardiac death
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • Transplant Law
    • Role of the MOHAN Foundation
    • Organ Donation Myths and Facts
    • When and how does organ donation take place?
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Cornea donation
    • Donor & Recipient Stories
    • How to take care of their organs was also discussed

    The session was very interactive and the students asked many questions. To mention a few :

    • Can eye donation take place despite poor vision?
    • Can we donate / pledge as students?
    • Can live liver donation be done twice?
    • How do we register if we’re in need of an organ?

    Dr.Sadika then spoke about various ways in which students can be involved in spreading the message of organ donation and “Live life Varun Size” Video at the end was played to motivate the students.

    Close to 130 students & 5 faculty were present.
