Church in Kodambakkam supports deceased organ donation

  • An awareness talk on organ donation was conducted at St. Alphonsa Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Kodambakkam, Chennai on 9th February 2014. MOHAN Foundation got an invitation from Mr. Joe, a member of the parish. The purpose of the programme was to motivate the followers to support Organ Donation. The session was facilitated by Mr. Prakash K, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai.

     

    The programme started with an introduction by the Parish Priest on enlightening the gathering to donate their organs. Mr. Prakash K gave an interactive talk on the concept of Organ Donation and during the talk he also shared about one of the real stories took place in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Chennai.

     

    In his session he covered following topics:

     

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between coma, cardiac death and brain death
    • Organs & Tissues that can be donated
    • Importance of Donor Card
    • Transplant Coordinators training

     

    More than 50 members attended the programme and 40 of them expressed their support and pledged for organ donation.
