Celebration of Indian Organ Donation Day at Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital

  • On the occasion of 7th National Organ Donation Day, Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai in collaboration with Transplant Authority of Tamil Nadu (TRANSTAN) organized a series of awareness events to spread the message among the general public from 24th to 26th November 2016. The campaign comprised awareness rally, signature campaign, human chain and various competitions on organ donation as listed below

    Organ Donation Rally at Madurai Medical College

     The campaign started with an awareness rally on 24th November 2016 at the Madurai Medical College. The rally was flagged off by Mr. Veera Raghava Rao, IAS, the Collector, Madurai District. The Dean, Vice Principle, Medical Superintendent, Residential Medical Officers, Professors and doctors from various departments, Nurses and student doctors from Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai were present during the rally. The event drew an enthusiastic participation from the school students. Around 500 students from various schools in and around Madurai took part in the rally and expressed their support for the noble cause. The rally culminated at the Government Rajaji Hospital with a signature campaign.

     

    Signature Campaign 

     The chief guest Mr. Veera Raghava Rao inaugurated the signature campaign and signed on the donor card to show his support for organ donation. Followed by him the dean and other members of the Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital took the pledge to be an organ donor. 

    Human chain in support of organ donation

    On 25th November 2016, a human chain in support of organ donation was organized at the Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. The event was presided over by the Vice Principal, Madurai Medical College.  Professor and Doctors from various departments, student doctors and nurses and students from various colleges and schools participated in the human chain.  

    Competitions on organ donation

    Various competitions such as slogan writing, poster making, video making, mime, essay writing, elocution, rangoli and vegetable carving art on the theme of promoting organ donation were conducted on 25th and 26th November 2016.  Around 200 school and college students in around Madurai participated in the competitions and came up with their innovative thoughts to create awareness among the general public.

    The awareness campaign was culminated with a valedictory function on 26th November 2016 and all the prize winners were felicitated by the Dean, Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital. The organisation of the vents was done by Mr. Venkatesh, Transplant coordinator MOHAN Foundation deputed at Madurai Medical College & Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai.
