Ms Pallavi Kumar was invited to speak at the 12th Organ Donation Masterclass, held on 6–7 February 2026 at the M.S. Ramaiah Advanced Learning Center, Bengaluru, organised by the Integrated Liver Care Foundation. MOHAN Foundation also facilitated and supported the participation of surgeons from the Northeastern states where the Foundation is actively working, as part of its ongoing efforts in capacity building and strengthening transplant programmes in the region.
The course was directed by Dr Sonal Asthana (Clinical Lead, HPB and Multiorgan Transplant Surgery, Aster Integrated Liver Care (ILC) Group, Aster Group of Hospitals, Bengaluru) and Dr Anand Subramanyam (Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, Apollo Hospitals, Bengaluru.)
The masterclass was attended by 36 surgeons from across India, Nepal and Mauritius, reflecting its wide regional and international participation. Alongside academic lectures, the programme included a cadaver-based wet lab, offering hands-on training in a protected laboratory environment, as well as supervised operative time. This combination of theory and practice provided participants with a realistic and immersive learning experience in transplantation.
Ms Pallavi delivered a session titled “Breaking Bad News and Making the Ask for Organ Donation.” The programme also featured lectures on the THOTA Act, 1994, coordination of multi-organ retrieval, medico-legal cases, brain death diagnosis and donor maintenance, principles of organ preservation, and normothermic regional perfusion, among other key topics.
MOHAN Foundation facilitated the participation of four surgeons from the Northeastern states by covering their registration fees, travel, and lodging. Surgeons who participated with MOHAN Foundation’s support included:
Feedback received from participating surgeons highlighted the impact of the programme:
“It was a very well-tailored, well-organised, and unique programme. The faculty and experts, including yourself, were top-notch professionals curated from across the country. The hands-on cadaver dissection was one of its kind and is usually seen only in very advanced institutions. My profound thanks to you and MOHAN Foundation for enabling me to attend this wonderful programme.” — Dr Bernard Amer
“The wet lab was the most helpful and realistic experience for me as a cardiac surgeon. The surgeon-to-cadaver ratio was ideal, providing a truly hands-on, real-life transplant experience. The lectures will greatly help me in visualising and planning my journey towards establishing a transplant centre. I am deeply grateful to MOHAN Foundation and the organisers of the Organ Donation Masterclass for this opportunity. - Dr. Arambam Athouba Singh
The programme was excellent throughout, and I learned a great deal from each session. I would like to sincerely thank you and MOHAN Foundation for sponsoring my participation. From my side, I will extend full cooperation in taking this work forward, subject to the necessary approvals. — Dr Tamal Sarkar
“It was a valuable opportunity to attend the 12th Organ Donation Masterclass organised by LTSI. The faculty and resource people were of the highest calibre, and the programme provided deep insights into the dedication, technical aspects, and legal framework governing organ transplantation. I gained a comprehensive understanding of multi-organ retrieval and benefited from hands-on, real-time experience through cadaver-based retrieval, with continuous guidance from the faculty throughout the process. I am sincerely grateful to MOHAN Foundation for enabling me to participate in this programme.” - Dr. Thiyam Tozo Luwang
The masterclass not only strengthened surgical skills but also contributed meaningfully to capacity building in regions where transplant programmes are still evolving.
