“Bold and Alert January” A Monthly seminar of a Health Sciences Institute starts with Organ Donation

  • As part of Allied Health Science Continuing Medical Education (AHCME) programme for Students, College of Health Science – MMM, a guest lecture on “Organ Donation” was organized by the Principal Dr. Deepa Phillip at Madras Medical Mission (MMM) on 5th January 2016. The speaker was Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee of MOHAN Foundation, Chennai and the stall was managed by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde Quality Assurance Manager and Ms Gieetha Transplant Coordinator.

     

    He laid out, in a systematic and easy way the Concepts of Organ Donation. In his talk  he covered the following topics:  importance of organ donation;  the need for organs, live and deceased organ donation; clarity on brain death; organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death  and brain death, MOHAN Foundation website, time line for Organ Donation and toll free help line. He showed a heart touching poem on Organ donation and also told a story of a donor.  

     

    Nearly 370 students participated in the programme. The session was very lively. 146 students took up the cause and pledged for organ donation. At the end of the session few requested for public awareness camps in their hospitals.  The Vote of Thanks was delivered by  Dr Senu Thomas, Lecturer Anatomy Department and the program was initiated   by Mr.  Simon  Raj, Lecturer, Medical Sociology  from MMM Centre for Health Sciences.
