  • The Organ Donation Ambassador Training is a three-part module based training. Nursing students of K J Somaiya College of Nursing, Mumbai underwent the Module 2 of the Ambassador Training on Nov 26, 2022 (2.00 - 4.30 pm) via an online interaction.  22 students participated in this training. MOHAN Foundation staff – Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Dr Muneet Kaur Sahi and Ms Jaya Jairam and Dr Rohini Motwani, Asst Prof. Department of Anatomy, AIIIMS Hyderabad were the faculty.

Dr Hemal spoke of the training modules as well as the expectations from the students. The students introduced themselves.  The first session was on the feedback on Module 1 and addressing question by the faculty.  Dr.  Motwani answered queries on: how is body donation done, what is the process in the anatomy department and why is body donation important?  Ms Jaya Jairam spoke of her experience from discovering she had kidney failure to the transplant and life after transplant. The other questions were on age barriers to organ donation, bone marrow donation, risks to a living organ donor, complications post-transplant surgery and why is family/guardian consent essential for organ donation.  After a good lively discussion, the next session was Modes of Communication.

Dr Hemal Kanvinde showed a presentation that highlighted the different modes of public education. She emphasised that even in times of COVID Organ donation awareness continued through online talks and competitions. She gave examples of rallies, marathons, short runs etc as well as craft, paintings and rangoli as ways to create awareness.

After a ten minute break, Dr Muneet Kaur Sahi conducted the last two sessions on

    a. Gratitude Workshop

    b. Making of a power point ppt on Organ Donation

All the volunteers were asked to see themselves as an organ recipient and write a thank you letter to the donor family. Some of the students read out the letters. The letters showed that they had developed empathy towards the donor family.

In the last session, Dr Muneet trained them to make a ppt, and gave them tips of what should be the content, design and number of slides. She asked them to practice well since their talk will give new concepts to the audience and that the talk is a performance.

Mrs Snehal staff-inchage of the college thanked MOHAN Foundation for the efforts in getting the students though the module 1 and module 2 of the training. She promised that the students will conduct activities in January of 2023.
