

The National Service Scheme (NSS) Members of SP Fort College of nursing organised an awareness session on deceased organ donation, on 29th November, 2013. Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network For Organ Sharing (KNOS) was invited to conduct the session on organ donation. The programme was held at auditorium SP Fort College. The programme was started with welcome speech delivered by Mrs. Meera S. R, Assistant Professor, SP Fort College.
Mr. Aneesh P. V. Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala conducted the session. In his talk he covered following topics: Mrithasanjeevani, THO Act 1994, importance of organ donation, types of donations – live and deceased donation; difference between coma, cardiac death and brain death, preservation time of organs, Donor card, Apnoea Test, KNOS website and role of nurses in brain death donation.
There were totally 103 nursing students, 10 assistant professors were participated in the session. At the end donor cards were displayed. All the participants picked the donor card and pledged their organs by signing the donor card.
