On 8th August 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Rotary Community Center, New Panvel, Navi-Mumbai to conduct an awareness talk on Organ Donation for their Rotarians.
Dr.Nagaonkar (Assistant Director, State Health Assurance) began by introducing the concept of organ donation, types of organs and tissues that can be donated, concept of brain death, donor identification, donor certification, screening of donor, donor maintenance, sharing of information to ZTCC (Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre), counselling of brain dead victim’s families. Mrs. Jigisha Yadav was then invited to share more information.
Mrs. Jigisha Yadav began by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, objectives and history. She then went on to ask them what came to their minds when they thought of Organ Donation and many shared positive thoughts and emotions.
Thereafter, Mrs. Jigisha Yadav shared with the audience, the difference between brain death and coma. She also discussed the various myths to do with organ donation. Information about organ allocation, and distribution were also shared. She also shared live experiences of some of the cases which she had counselled.
There were around 60 Rotarians members. Mrs. Jigisha Yadav appealed to the audience to take online pledge on 9th of August in order to be part of the Guinness world record attempt by the Rotary District 3141, which was being supported by MOHAN Foundation.
