Chennai, August 22, 2025: An Organ Donation Awareness Program was conducted at the Apollo Institute of Hospital Management and Allied Sciences (AIHMAS), Chennai, under the guidance of Dr. Jagadeswaran D, Dean and Head, Allied & Healthcare Professions. The session featured Ms. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi, Associate Director – Courses, as the guest speaker and witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 200 students across various allied health science courses.
The program covered a wide range of topics to provide a comprehensive understanding of organ donation and transplantation. Key discussions included the fundamentals of organ donation, the legal and regulatory framework governing transplantation in India, the burden of organ failure and the critical need for organ donation, eligibility criteria for donors, and an overview of donation after circulatory death and brainstem death. The session also highlighted the significance of the donor card and emphasized the crucial role of families in supporting deceased organ donation.

The awareness talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session. Students raised insightful questions on subjects such as voluntary whole-body donation, the impact of ischemic time on organ transplantation outcomes, and the functioning of organ waitlists and distribution systems.
