Saveetha Dental College and Hospital was established in 1988 with a mission to promote academic excellence, widen intellectual horizons, inculcate self discipline and set high ideals for the total personality development of the individual. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation on December 16, 2022. Around 100 students from different courses gathered in the Seminar Hall to attend the seminar. Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde of MOHAN Foundation and Mr. Vijay Kumar, Transplant coordinator at Saveetha Hospital were the resource persons for the sessions. Green Ribbons andinformation brochures were distributed to all students.
The session started with a motivational video and a short Inaugural Ceremony. Dr. S. Aravind Kumar (Dean) spoke of the value of donation and his experience when he pledged as a eye donor. Dr Hemal thanked the management of Saveetha Education Trust for the opportunity and requested the students to take the cause to the community. Dr. Meignana Arumugham I (HoD Public Health Dentistry) gave a vote of thanks and both speaker were felicitated.
Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H began the session on the Concept of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what, when and how donation can happen. She explained brain death, skin and eye donation, voluntary body donation. The session ended with a video explaining brain stem death. It was an interactive session.
Dr Hemal Kanvinde gave a talk on Youth and Organ Donation. She explained the professional training courses, ambassador program and internship opportunities that MOHAN Foundation provides the students.
Mr. Vijay Kumar shared his experience about counseling a recipient, importance of family supportand how to tackle any roadblocks that come in the way. He explained the procedure to do transplantation and in more detail on the living donation. A recipient video was played after his talk.
Students pledged to donate their organs, more than 50 students collected their donor cards. The session ended with Vote of Thanks by Dr. Lalitha Rani C (Professor). Dr. Hemal presented “Stories of Transplant“ book to HoD and Mr.Vijay Kumar (Transplant Coordinator).
