Awareness on organ donation for drivers at Regional Transport Office, Nagpur

  • On 17 November, 2015, Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation Nagpur Centre, spoke to drivers about organ donation. This was an initiative of Mr. Powar, RTO officer, Nagpur branch who wanted to conduct an awareness session on organ donation for drivers who apply for vehicle registration and driving license.

    Mr. Bulu Behera delivered a talk on Organ Donation. In his talk he explained the following points-

    • Importance and need of Organ donation
    • Types of donations –Live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural death, Coma and Brain Death
    • THO Act  and Maharashtra Rules
    • Myths related to Organ Donation
    • Eye donation, skin donation & whole body donation
    • Importance of Donor card, Helpline number and website

    It was a very interactive session. 18 drivers were present during the talk.

    6 drivers took the consent form to discuss with their family members and decide.

     

     The Participants asked the following questions:-

    What is body donation & Organ donation?

    What is Natural death & Brain death?

    What is the waiting list for cornea transplant in Nagpur.
