Awareness on Organ and Tissue Donation at Akshaya Trust, Valasaravakkam

  • An awareness session on organ and tissue donation  was held on April 22, 2025, at Akshaya Trust, Valasaravakkam, Chennai.  Akshaya Trust supports old age homes in Chennai.  Resource persons  from MOHAN Foundation for  the session were  Mr Ganesh C - Marketing Manager and Ms Sangeetha K, Project Executive.  

     The session was started by Mr. Ganesh, who gave an insightful introduction about MOHAN Foundation. This was followed by a session on eye donation presented by Ms. Sangeetha, who explained the process, cleared common myths, and how individuals can pledge for eye donation. 

    Ms. Subbulakshmi, Founder of Saki Foundation, also addressed the gathering and shared her personal experience of pledging for organ donation, inspiring the participants with her heartfelt story. The elderly residents of the old age home were highly engaged, asking questions such as whether eye donation involves any cost and how to pledge without using digital platforms.

    A total of 30 people  from the old age home participated in the session and 26 participants picked up donor cards. The session was interactive and well-received, with informational brochures distributed to help participants understand the procedures better. This collaborative initiative reflected the shared commitment of both Akshaya Trust and MOHAN Foundation to spreading awareness and empowering the community through meaningful dialogue.
