On September 17, 2025, an awareness session on organ and tissue donation was organized for the NSS students of Madras School of Social Work (MSSW). MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct the program and spread awareness on the importance of organ donation as a life-saving cause.
The session began with a welcome address by the NSS Student Coordinator, followed by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation. She introduced the session with “The Donor”, a short film by director A. Vijay on organ donation. Dr. Hemal also spoke about cornea donation, shared important statistics, and highlighted the precautions to be followed for donation.
Next, Mr. Ganesh C, Senior Project Coordinator, spoke about organ donation, explaining brain death, the process of registering as an organ recipient, and addressing myths and facts in the field. He also cautioned students about scams and guided them on effectively using the Organ Donation Helpline (1800 103 7100).
The session became more inspiring when Mr. Hariharan, a paediatric kidney transplant recipient, shared his personal journey of transplantation, recounting the challenges he overcame, inspired the students with his story.
To make the session interactive, a bingo game themed on organ donation was conducted. Students enthusiastically participated, and the winners were awarded badges. Mr. Ganesh also introduced the professional certificate courses offered by MOHAN Foundation and spoke about career opportunities for MSW students as Transplant Coordinators.
A total of 86 students and staff actively participated in the program, and 41 donor cards were distributed. MOHAN Foundation expresses its sincere gratitude to the MSSW management and the NSS unit for their support and hospitality.
