On 8th and 9th December 2011, MOHAN foundation was invited by NAC jewellers, Mylapore to give an awareness talk on organ donation for their employees. 83 members participated the session. A Short film on organ donation -”uyir kodu” was screened followed by a brief talk about the concepts of organ donation. At the end of the talk the accountant of NAC Jewellers wept and said that if she had been aware of organ donation 11 years back she would have donated her son’s organs. She lost her son in an accident 11 years back.
The audience raised some queries:
Will organ donation interfere with funeral arrangements?
No. The removal or organs or tissues will not interfere with customary funeral or burial arrangements. Surgeons carefully suture the incision made for retrieval of organs. The body is then well packed before handing over to the family.
Does organ donation cause any disfigurement of the body?
No. Organ donation does not change the appearance of the body. Organs are removed through a neat surgical incision and the incision is then sutured back carefully.
The Transplant Coordinators from MOHAN Foundation, Ms.Sindhuja, Ms.Jessi & Ms.Veena conducted five sessions and sensitized the employees on organ donation. The employees will take the pledge for organ donation on 12th December 2011 at the Diamond Mela function being organized by NAC Jewellers.
