Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Youth Technical Training Institute, Chandigarh

    Ms. Preeti Gupta initiated the session by introducing MF-SRDF alongwith its mission and vision. She, then, addressed the importance of organ donation as a gift of life. 

    A comprehensive scope on organ donation was covered through following articles:

    • The concept of organ and tissue donation and impact of the lifesaving were highlighted.
    • The status of Organ Donation in India and its requirement vs donation rates.
    • The light was shed on the terms live related – live unrelated.
    • The differences between natural deathbrain death, and a coma state were explained.
    • The challenge was to dispel the myths in regard to organ donation were taken care of by providing factual information to the volunteers.
    • Real life stories of an organ transplant were shared.
    • All were encouraged to have a word with their families.

    Around 30 students from different areas of Chandigarh have attended the session. Students gained clarity on the concept of brain death and its distinction from coma. Misconceptions and myths about organ donation were addressed. Participants expressed willingness to share their wish to donate organs with their families, reinforcing the importance of family consent in India.

    The session successfully raised awareness among young students about the significance of organ donation. By engaging with the Youth Technical Training Society, MF-SRDF contributed to building a culture of informed decision-making and family dialogue around organ donation.
