MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness programme on Organ Donation at Vel Tech Engineering College, Avadi, Chennai on 23rd January 2018 at 9 am. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer and Ms. Persis Flory I, Transplant Coordinator represented MOHAN Foundation. Dr. B. Nagalingeswara Raju, Principal and Mr. P. Sathyanathan, Programme Coordinator- Youth Red Cross (YRC) and National Service Scheme (NSS) helped to organise the programme.
Around 150 1st year students from various departments like EEE, ECE, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering attended the session held at Mother Teresa Auditorium. The programme started with the welcome note by a student, followed by an introductory speech by the Principal, Dr. B. Nagalingeswara Raju.
Green ribbons and information brochures were distributed. Dr. Hemal Kanvinde began her talk with an Introduction about MOHAN Foundation; she went on to explain the concepts of organ donation, brain death and the cause of brain death. She clarified the myths associated with organ donation and urged students to speak with their parents about the cause. She also involved the students in a role play on allocation of organs. It was an interactive session. A few students spoke about their experiences.
130 students pledged as organ donors. To show their support they took a photo with big donor cards. Many students enrolled for the 'Angels of Change' volunteer training by MOHAN Foundation to spread the Concept of Organ Donation.
