On 1st April 2019, MOHAN Foundation, Mumbai was invited by Mr. Dixshit (President of Jyeshtha Nagrik Sangh) & Shri Prakash J. Lakhapate (Vice President of Jyeshtha Nagrik Sangh, Nerul) for Public Awareness talk at Utkarsha Mahila Mandal, Nerul (Navi Mumbai).
Mr. Dixshit (President of Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh, Nerul) gave a brief history of Utkarsha Mahila Mandal, Nerul. He then introduced Mrs. JigishaYadav, transplant co-ordinator from MOHAN Foundation, by saying that she is going to speak on Organ donation and will clear all their doubts.
Jigisha Yadav introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working for the cause of Organ Donation, for the past 20 years and also shared their philanthropy. She explained that MOHAN is an acronym for “Multi-Organ Harvesting AidNetworking”. She also shared the Missions and Objectives of the Foundation.
She explained the concept of Organ Donation, types of Death (Cardiac and Brain death), the Organs and Tissues that can be donated after Cardiac Death and after Brain Death. She then explained the difference between Brain Death and Coma. She also explained the difference between Organ Donation and Body Donation. Various myths and facts about Organ Donations were discussed and the information about allocation and distribution was also shared.
Many queries were also answered by Mr. Dixshit and Mrs. Smita Agavne (Social worker) about allocation. One of the members from Uthkarsha Mahila Mandal asked what would happen about the person who stayed alone. Mr. Prakash Lakhapate told that Jyestha Nagrik Sangh is going to keep a different session for the person who stays alone. He said they are to just fill the pledge form if they are willing to donate. They said that they have kept a target of 1000 pledge forms to be filled in a year.
One of the Donors shared her story that in their family they had donated his brother’s organs in Pune, when he was declared Brain Dead. Lastly, they felicitated Mrs. Jigisha Yadav from MOHAN Foundation.
